Tim has a series on our blog categorized “Why I Did That to You“. These posts are written for our daughters when they become older, wiser, and question the sanity of our family. Hopefully by reading his letters, our girls will gain some insight into our parenting philosophy (or lack thereof as the case may well be). Writing out our thoughts makes us feel like we’ve really figured out this whole parenting thing and aren’t flying by the seat of our pants. And maybe, just maybe we have more reasons than “because we said so.”

Something was amiss at our farmers’ market recently. Justyne of Noble Springs Dairy, whom we’ve affectionately nicknamed Goatgirl in the same vein as Supergirl, was nowhere to be found. Her place had been taken by her fiance Dustin, aka Goatboy. On a typical Saturday morning he’s at the West Nashville Farmers’ Market while she’s at the Franklin Farmers’ Market with us. Why the change? Goatboy’s response: “Well, I gave her the morning off to get ready. We’re getting married tonight.”

While on our way to storytime at the downtown library last Wednesday, we stopped into our favorite place to buy bread in Nashville. After picking up our sourdough boule (unsliced, please), we were on our way upstairs to see the Professor and Mary Mary.

What do you call it when you have to go the bathroom really badly?

A “pee-mergency”!

And, if you go in the bathroom American and you come out American, what are you while you are in there?

You’re a pee-ing! (European)

Forget Dorothy’s slippers. Take a look at these ruby beauties! Fresh sour cherries. Also known as tart cherries – and with good reason. Unlike sweet cherries, such as Bings and Rainiers, these glassy red orbs are too tart for eating out of hand, at least for me.

Earlier this month in Nashville, the rains came down, the floods came up, and a building floated down the interstate. We were lucky and escaped with only a wet basement. However, many more were not so fortunate, including “our” farmers, the Delvins, who lost 70% of their crops, including about 90% of their strawberries.
