“Orange Leaf” by Oakley Martin
Oakley’s entry into a poetry contest
Orange Leaf
Fiery
Orange Leaf
Floating down from the
clear night sky
Drifting down to the place on earth
that was meant for him
Silently hitting the frost-covered ground
With moonlight streaming down on the single leaf
Hundreds of stars watch over the leaf, protecting him from
every danger in the night
Orange leaf is finally at home, where he belongs, where
he was destined to go
Orange leaf becomes as still as he was not long ago in the treetops
The night air is so silent, so still,
so
calm,
and
so,
so,
beautiful.
